SAXONBY, away in the first flight, moved to the front early, opened up a wide lead leaving the back stretch, saved ground, but tired in the closing eighth and had to be shaken up to stall off FLUSHING. The latter, away poorly, closed an immense gap and raced as if best. IVY X. was close up all during the early running and held on gamely in the final drive. SUN ARBOR raced in nearest pursuit of the winner for five-eighths, then tired. CREAM CHEESE made a weak effort rounding the turn, then tired. SHOTTY was in the first division, but was never a threat. MR. HYLAND closed some ground. IDLE ZELDA was outrun. BIG SQUEEZE was away very slowly. GINO CAPTURE caused some crowding in the opening eighth. ON THE DOT broke swiftly and followed abreast of GOLDEN THOUGHT when unable to hold the lead, then responded stoutly, assumed command turning out of the back stretch and was kept under intermittent punishment to the end. GOLDEN THOUGHT was hard urged to get into the lead and saved ground, but could not stay with the winner, although hodling on willingly. GRAND LIGHT, under strong urging to race forwardly, held on eamely. BALKOS MAID was hurried along all the way, swung to the inside in the stretch drive, closedgamely and .finished in a dead heat with GRAND LIGHT for third. AIRTIGHT, having his best speed, was close to the leaders early, swung to the outside of the leaders entering the stretch, wore down MAEBRILLE and drew out steadily in the last sixteenth. DARBY DALLAS, ridden hard and going in the thick of contention, finished with good courage in the closing eighths. MAE- BRILLE had much taken out of her racing MARLIANT into submission and tired in the stretch drive while saving ground. MARLIANT forced a good pace while racing abreast of the pacemaker, .but tired under punishment in the last eighth. JABIRU failed to enter contention. LAST ROSE raced wide. BLUE GROTTO, fractious and delaying the start, broke in motion to draw into the lead at once, set a fast pace all the way, saved ground and was kept under urging to the finish. MEXICO CITY raced into a contending position from the start, rallied willingly in the closing drive and outfinished BROADKILL in the last few strides, although no match for the winner. BROADKILL was hard ridden all the way, saved ground and was not good enough. TUTTICURIO raced clear on the outside of the leaders, but failed to improve his position. OPENING NIGHT tired steadily after going a half mile. LILTING broke slowly and trailed all the way. Scratched 72181 Black Buddy, 113. Overweight Blue Grotto, 2 pounds. TONI raced reserved off the early pace for three-quarters, responded with a rush in the last five-sixteenths, circled her field and wore down JACK PATCHES rapidly approaching the finish. JACK PATCHES, under restraint in the early running, displaced DULCIMER when ready, opened up a long lead ncaring the stretch and saved ground, but could not cope with the winner when caught. CELESTINO, suffered interference on the first turn, went into a forward position midway of the back stretch and finished gamely in the final drive. DULCIMER lost command nearing the final turn and tired steadily. THE STORY, starting slowly, made up ground slowly in the last half mile. FURFIBER tired after going three-quarters. The latter, going in his best form, was prominent early, engaged the winner rounding the final turn and was making up ground fast approaching the finish. COUNTRY LASS, forced to race wido from the start, closed stoutly after losing much ground. BEAVER COUNTY was kept within striking distance of the leaders, came between horses entering the stretch and finished gamely. ICY WIND, steadied back of TOWN CAR, moved to the front without effort nearing the final turn, opened a long lead, but had to be shaken up stoutly inside the final eighth. SCHLEY NURSE worked hcrl way forward on the outside, gained fast in the last five-sixteenths and finished wearing down the winner rapidly. DAVID W., kept on the inside from the beginning, bettered his position gradually, but could not threaten the first two. SAIDONA lacked early speed and failed to menace at any stage. HI-TIDE, away poorly, almost lost his rider at the start and trailed far back, then came gamely in the final drive. TOWN CAR was done after going three-quarters. REVELSTOKE was unable to threaten. D1ANAPAT, shuffled back near the final turn, came with a bold rush in the stretch drive. J. WARE was slow to get into racing stride, continued strongly in the late stages and finished in a dead heat with DIANA-FAT for fourth. FLYING CAR and DENOTE were made too much used of in the first seven-eighths and they tired fast. JACOPOBELLE raced in dull fashion. BILLABONG had no excuses.
