SHASTA PLAY went to the front early and, after making the pace under light restraint for half the distance, drew out near the stretch turn and was never in serious danger, although bearing out and tiring in the closing eighth. FRANZ responded fairly well to urging in the stretch, but could make little impression on the winner. DYKE SHOOTER finished fairly well. NAPERTON quit badly after going three-quarters. EMPRESS HILLS, closest to BURSTON MANOR most of the way, moved up and, overtaking the latter near the end, won under urging. BURSTON MANOR went to the front early and, after showing fair form in pacemaking, held on well. STARLO was prominent from the start in a good performance. IDLE LAD was eased back when in close quarters on the far turn, then came to the outside in the stretch and was going well at the finish. SCEED and PARLEY VOUS showed early speed. XENORAS FOX, close up from the start, went to the outside on the stretch turn and, taking command, opened up a good lead in the last eighth and won handily. IMMUNITY came steadily through the stretch, made up ground, but did not seriously threaten. FORT RYOLA was in close quarters on the back stretch, but was going well at the end. RUSSIAN BANK showed early speed, but tired near the end. KAYEL had no mishaps and saved ground throughout, but tired in the last eighth. BOSCA was slow to get going and made up some ground. SUN PORTLAND, outrun early, was forced to race wide while making his, move and loomed up dangerously in the middle of the track in the stretch; but was not good enough. JACK BE NIMBLE was well up from the start in a good performance. SHASTA BUDDY was going fairly well at the finish. PEP TALK was unable to keep up with the early leaders. JUSTWAR tired.
