I TRANSFER ALPINE COMMAND ROME, Italy, April 4. The Italian war ministry announced today that the high command of the Alpine corps has been transferred to Trento. The shift of headquarters of Italys crack mountain fighters to a point in the Dolomite Mountains of the northeast, closer to the German than to the French frontier, was said to be a normal military operation. The ministry denied that the change had anything to do with the international situation. Trento, ceded to Italy by Austria after the World War, is on the Adige River at the southern point of a mountainous triangle extending toward the Swiss and German borders. It commands the narrow route between high mountains leading into Italy from Brenner Pass, where Italian soil touches Germany. Italian Alpine military activities in recent years have centered in the Piedmont region, close to the French border.
