HINES RELEASED ON BAIL NEW YORK, N. Y., April 4 Release of Tammany District Leader James J. Hines from The Tombs, where he had been imprisoned for slightly more than a week, was granted today. Hines motion for a certificate of reasonable doubt was approved, thereby permitting his release on 5,000 bail until an appeal of his conviction as paid protector for the Dutch Schultz policy mob is taken. Because of summer vacations and necessary legal steps the appeal may not be taken up before fall. Hines is under a prison sentence of four to eight years.
