STAKES TO CLOSE ON APRIL 19 Thirteen Fixtures To Be Decided at Delaware Park Meeting1. J. Simpson Dean Succeeds C. W. Baker as President and Treasurer Edward J. Brennan in Charge of Steeplechasing. WILMINGTON, Del., April 4. Edward Burke, director of Delaware Park racing, has fixed April 19 as the date of closing of thirteen stakes that will be revived in the course of a full month of racing that will begin at the new Stanton course, May 30, and continue through July 4. The coming meeting, the third of the Delaware Steeplechase and Race Association, will begin a little earlier and continue a little longer than did either of the earlier sessions. Burkes operating staff will be the same as last years, as will also the daily distribution of money. The minimum purse will be ,000. There has been one change in the directorate since last season, J. Simpson Dean, of Wilmington, having succeeded C. W. Baker as president and treasurer. The vice-presidents are R. R. M. Carpenter, John P. Bowditch and E. Burke. Bowditch is secretary and Edward L. Hobbs, assistant secretary and assistant treasurer. John P. Turner will serve as clerk of the course for flat racing and do the handicapping, and Edward J. Brennan will fill corresponding posts in the steeplechasing. There will not be any steeplechasing until after the finish of the Belmont Park spring racing, June 7. STAKE SCHEDULE. The thirteen stakes, presented in the order in which they will be run, for which nominations must be made before midnight, Wednesday, April 19,"are: Wilmington Handicap, ,000 added, three-year-olds and upward, six furlongs, to be run May 30; Brandywine Handicap, ,000 added, three-year-olds and upward, one mile and a sixteenth, to be run June 3; Dover Stakes, ,000 added, two-year-olds, five furlongs, to be run June 3; Newcastle Handicap, 0,000 added, three-year-olds and upward, fillies and mares, one mile and a sixteenth, to be run June 10; Georgetown Steeplechase Handicap, ,000 added, four-year-olds and upward, about two miles, to be run June 14; Delaware Oaks, ,000 added, three-year-old fillies, one mile and a furlong, to be run June 17; Polly Drummond Stakes, ,000 added, two-year-old fillies, five furlongs, to be run June 17; Indian River Steeplechase Handicap, ,000 added, four-year-olds and upward, about two miles and a half, to be run June 21; 0,000 ADDED FEATURE. Kent Handicap, 0,000 added, three-year-olds, one mile and a sixteenth, to be run June 24; Diamond State Stakes, ,000 added, three-year-olds one mile and a furlong, to be run July 1; Christiana Stakes, ,000 added, two-year-old colts and geldings, five and a half furlongs, to be run July 1; Vicmead Highweight Steeplechase Handicap, ,500 added, four-year-olds and upward, two miles and a half brush course, to be run July 3; Sussex Handicap, 0,000 added, three-year-olds and upward, one mile and a quarter, to be run July 4. There will be a closing likewise on April 19 of the Diamond State Stakes and Delaware Oaks, to be revived in 1940. The first payment in each, of these 1940 events will be 0, which must accompany nominations. There will be additional payments in each of 0 and 5, respectively, October 2, 1939 and April 15, 1940. The added money in the Diamond State will be ,000, in the Oaks ,000. The distance of each race will remain the same, one mile and a furlong.
