Doublrab Has Sights Set For Blackstone Valley Victory Will Give Him Sweep of Narragansetts Sprint Fixtures PAWTUCKET, R. I., May 8.— Mrs. Tilyou Christophers Doublrab, winner of the Spring Handicap and the Bristol Handicap, will be shooting for his third stake victory of the spring session tomorrow when the Narragansett Park meeting comes to a close with the Blackstone Valley Handicap as the feature. The Illinois-bred gray son of Sherab has dominated the sprint division thus far and has a chance to earn unusual distinction by making a clean sweep of the sprint stakes while annexing Saturdays six-furlong headliner. To do so, however, he will have to pick up top weight of 121 pounds. Among those who will be opposing him will be A. B. Christophers Daily Delivery, who gave him such a sharp contest in the Bristol. What is more, there is a shift of five pounds in the weights off that race and it is in favor of Daily Delivery who is asked to carry 114 pounds. Trainer Harris Brown, who handles Doublrab for Mrs. Christopher, didnt intend to run his charge in the Blackstone Valley, but the change in track conditions made him change his mind. On the other hand, Victor Emanuels Omission was slated to come here to fill his engagement in the week-end feature until it appeared that the track would be drying out at race time. Trainer J. P. "Sammy" Smith decided to pass up the race. Since leaving here after winning the Bristol, Doublrab raced at Pimlico. There he was whipped by Ocean Blue, but the Crispin Oglebay colorbearer had to run the six furlongs in track record time of l:104/s in order to accomplish that assignment. The race also will mark the return to action of Robert W. Collins Sweet Willow, winner of the 1941 renewal of this event. The Collins mare, one of the speediest of her sex in the country, was injured in Florida, but she is said to be fully recovered and has been working in excellent fashion since her arrival here. One of the outsiders in the field with a good chance of providing an upset is Mort Stuarts Watch Over. Ted Atkinson, leading rider at the meeting, has been chosen to ride him and he will carry 112 pounds. There is a chance that E. C. Eastwood may start both Sack and Challamore. Alexander S. Pierce will be represented by Allegro. Saturdays racing will mark the conclusion of one of the most successful meetings at Narragansett in the history of the sport at this track. Attendance and mutual play have far exceeded the managements expectations. Tomorrows ninth race will be run for the benefit of the Army Relief Fund. The associations 6 2 per cent of the mutuel handle will go to the fund and, in addition, a corresponding sum also will be thrown into the pot. The management has guaranteed the fund the minimum amount it will receive from this race will be 0,000.
