Minimum Purses of 00 Set for Charles Town Offer Nine Races on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays CHARLES TOWN, W. Va., May 8.— The arduous task of alloting stall space completed, the six-furlong track in remarkable condition, the brown and white color scheme of this compact and popular racing establishment standing out in bold relief as against the sparkling green of natures own handiwork, the iris and petunia plants in full bloom around the landscaped lawns and every detail cared for in a most minute manner. Charles Town Jockey Club is ready as it never has been ready before its spring meeting, which begins Monday. Uncertainty of the times has not slackened interest and like Saratoga in August, this historic little city in the picturesque Shenandoah Valley is bubbling over with enthusiasm and is fairly bursting at the seams with the influx of turf regulars. A 00 purse minimum has been set for the initial six days. This is far and away the hiphest minimum for any meeting here. Only last summer the session opened with a 00 minimum. Nine races will be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays during the first week. According to a 25-minute proposed schedule between races, the entire days program should be over before 6 oclock. Prrsdent Boyle and mutuel manager Donald Hay are confident that this program can be worked out satisfactorily.
