» ALBERT J. BOYLE— President of the Charles Town Jockey Club. Approve Charles Towns Victory Meeting1 Dates Session for Army-Navy Relief And West Virginia Charities CHARLES TOWN, W. Va., May 12.— Charles Towns "Victory Meeting," and all-out program of 18 days of thoroughbred racing with the entire proceeds going to the Army and Navy Relief and West Virginia charities, was given the unanimous approval of the West Virginia Racing Commission at a special meeting of the body this morning. The commission, headed by chairman Beverley Broun, gave the "go" signal to every phase of the plan submitted by a committee composed of Albert J. Boyle, Wm. Perry and Leeds K. Riely, and passed favorably upon the date from June 15 to July 4. The three weeks of racing for relief and charity will begin at the conclusion of the current meeting of the Charles Town Jockey Club and will be conducted by the newly formed West Virginia Turf Fund committee. Under this setup all employes will receive their salaries in war bonds up to 70 per cent of their earnings and jockey fees will be paid in war bonds and stamps in the amount of their earnings. No salaries will be paid those managing the turf benefit fund and all gate receipts and commissions from concessions will go to the fund. All purses will be reduced and the first 00 of each purse will be paid in defense bonds. , Charles Town is turning over half of its usual spring and summer meeting to the raising of funds for war relief and other charities.
