DAWN PORTAGE, outrun early, moved up swiftly after being steered to the outside entering the back stretch and, under mild pressure in the final eighth, came on to win going away. SPEEDY VALLEY, a forward factor throughout, closed steadily while saving ground rounding the final turn and was going strongly at the end. ALLEY, very slow to settle into stride, closed much ground in the last quarter. GAY ELF, having good early speed, forged to the front after going a quarter and held on gamely to midway of the back stretch, then tired when challenged. RUGGED ROCK closed some ground. MISMARK tired badly after displaying good parly speed. Won easily; second and third driving. SPYWAY, well rated back of the pace for a half mile, moved up when ready on the outside after reaching the back stretch and, under mild urging, drew away to win by a wide margin. AULD LANG SYNE, far back for a halt mile, moved up swiftly while saving ground rounding the far turn and closed gamely, in the final drive, but was no match for the winner. COURTEOUS, away slowly, closed much ground in the first quarter and held on gamely to the last to save the show. LORD PROSPECT, having good speed from the start, drew away into a long lead in the first quarter and held his advantage to the final quarter, then tired. COUNTRY MISS showed some early speed. R. ANNA A-VISH, having good early speed, stayed close to the pace to the back stretch, then, slipping through on the rail, took command and drew away slightly on the far turn, but had to be shaken up in the last sixteenth to hold the swiftly closing TETROS JR. The latter, slow to settle into stride, closed strongly while racing on the outside in the final quarter and was closing on the winner at the end. DOCTOR REDER, always within striking distance of the pace, closed gamely in the final drive. STRING BAND closed some ground in the last quarter while saving ground. FRENCH HORN was rushed into a good lead soon after the start, held his advantage to the far turn, then, under a drive, raced head and head with VEGAS JUSTICE all through the final eighth and just lasted to win narrowly. The latter, always clpsest to the winner, made a bold bid in the last eighth, but was not good enough. CIRIO raced evenly throughout and was never able to menace the leaders.
