Steel Heels Given 117-Pound Impost Likely Starting Top Weight For Kentucky Handicap — Equifax to Carry 114 LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 12.— The locally-owned Steel Heels, who flies the colors of Junius W. Bell, will shoulder top weight if he takes part in Saturdays running of the Kentucky Handicap at Churchill Downs and he is almost certain to be in the field. The son of Harry Baker and Fast Heels has been assigned 117 pounds, which is two more than Miss Helen Hickmans Aonbarr must pick up and three more than has been given another of his principal rivals, the R C Stables Royal Crusader. The mighty Whirlaway, who won the Clark Handicap here on opening day, was given the top impost of 130 pounds, but he is not here and is not likely to be shipped back here for Saturdays closing stake. That Steel Heels is ready for the Kentucky Handicap, which is to be contested at a mile and a furlong, was emphasized this morning when he worked a mile in 1:4435. From a time standpoint, the drill was not so impressive, but he accomplished the task in the easiest fashion to the complete satisfaction of his trainer, Frank P, Letellier. Pink Gal Ready to Repeat Two other candidates for honors in the Kentucky Handicap presented themselves here yesterday. They were Howard Wells Equifox and the Arcturus Stables Pink Gal, each of whom scored impressive winning performances. Equifox, making his first start of the year, came from a long way back to win a seven-furlong engagement, and Pink Gal accounted for a mile test. Under the weights announced by racing secretary William H. Shelley, Equifox will carry 114 pounds Saturday and Pink Gal 10 pounds less. Others who are expected to make up the field this week-end are Jake Lowensteins Heartman, Herbert M. Woolfs Technician, Shady Brook Farms Agricole, Carl Grahams Boss Hoss and Mrs. E. L.
