Horsemen in California Thrill to Sport in East Don Bingos Great Victory In Suburban Causes Furor LOS ANGELES, Calif., June 26.— Southern California turf devotees, particularly those in the motion picture colony, were elated over the success of the four-year-old Don Bingo in the Suburban Handicap. Don Bingo is owned by the Binglin Stable of Bing Crosby and Capt. Lin Howard and was foaled at the Crosby place, near Rancho Santa Fe in San Diego County, after his dam, Lirica, had been purchased in foal in the Argentine and shipped to this country. Lirica, who died over a year ago, was also the dam of Ligaroti, who engaged Seabiscuit in a sensational match race at Del Mar a few years ago and who for a couple of seasons was a handicap contender at southern California tracks. Ligaroti at present heads the stud at the Crosby ranch and the first of his get are appearing as two-year-olds this season. It is interesting and rather confusing to note that another horse, an Argentinian six-year-old named Don Bingo II., is also racing at Belmont Park, but performing in claiming ranks. He, too, was imported to the United States by Crosby and Howard. California breeders and particularly Walter Hoffman, Jr., owner of Rancho Casitas, were also interested in the performance of Market Wise in the Suburban. The strong running five-year-old, who was disqualified after having finished second in the Belmont Park race, is a son of Brokers Tip, a stallion who has been standing at Rancho Casitas for the past few seasons and on whose services Hoffman recently obtained a four-year lease from the owner, Mark T. Cox, of Cheyenne, Wyo. Hoffman obtained another thrill from the racing at Belmont when Vain Prince, a four-year-old bred by him, annexed the Head Play Handicap. Still another Belmont Park victory for California was when the six-year-old Mark was victorious. Mark is owned by Harry Brown of San Francisco.
