Aletern Goes Postward In Questionnaire Purse Meets Three Other Candidates For Stors and Stripes Today HOMEWOOD, 111.. June 26.— A. C. Ernsts Aletern, one of the foremost candidates for the 0,000 Stars and Stripes Handicap on July 5, is to take part in the Questionnaire Purse at Washington Park Monday as part of his preparation for that rich fixture. Romping winner of two of Lincoln Fields Jockey Clubs principal features, the Ernst colt will be a strong favorite to win Mondays run of a mile and an eighth. Aletern now has won three stakes this year. The two he won during the Lincoln Fields meeting were the Francis S. Peabody Memorial and La Salle Handicaps and he was a pronounced favorite for the Lincoln Handicap at Hawthorne, but was forced to by-pass that engagement because of an injured heel. Before coming to Chicago, Aletern won the Ben Ali Handicap during the Keeneland session. The Ernst four-year-old, winner of the Sheridan Handicap last summer when he was a three-year-old, was entered in the Equipoise Mile here today, but was withdrawn in favor of Mondays engagement whose distance will probably be better suited to his style. Three other candidates for the Stars and Stripes also are to be found in the Questionnaire Purse. They are the Brook -meade Stables Great Rush, just arrived from New York, Miss Helen Hickmans Aonbarr, a stakes, winner last year who will be making his second start of 1943, and William Montgomerys improving Choppy Sea. Rounding out the field for the feature is Hugh S. Nesbitts Staretor. Mondays program at Washington Park also embraces several other events of promise, notably the Stagehand and Box-thorn Purses. The Stagehand, a mile spin for three-year-olds, will engage such horses as Son of Peace, Kanopolis, Big Boy, Un-! known Reward, Chain Miss, Pylon and Boundary Light, while the Boxthorn, a six-furlong test for three-year-olds and upward, attracted Alohort, Full Cry, Bulls Eye, Shut Eye, All Hoss and others. Post time for the first race Monday will be 3 p. m.
