Myles Standish Stakes Renewal This Saturday Second Richest Juvenile Event Of Entire Suffolk Downs Meet BOSTON, Mass., June 26.— Highlighting the program at Suffolk Downs as the eighth week of the current 60-day session gets under way will be the ,500 added Myles Standish Stakes down for decision July 3. The Myles Standish had its inception in 1935 at one mile and for three-year-olds and upward. It was then changed exclusively for three-year-olds in 1936 and 1937. It was left off the stakes roster in 1938 and was brought back as a test for juvenile colts and geldings in 1939. This offering is the second richest prize for two-year-old colts and geldings and is surpassed in value only by the 5,000 Mayflower Stakes, juvenile closing-day feature. Supporting the Myles Standish will be the one mile of the John Alden for three-year-olds and upward for a purse of ,000. Previous two-year-old winners of the Myles Standish have been Dos, Blue Pair, Eternal Bull and Hygrohour. It is interesting to note that in the 1941 renewal it was the last time that Alsab suffered de-| feat in his juvenile year when he was forced to accept second place back of Eternal Bull in track record time. Racing secretary Charles McLennan has a sprinkling of week-day features which include both handicaps and condition races. Thursdays card is particularly worthy of note, being topped by the Mt. Auburn Purse carrying a purse of ,000. As a supporting attraction on this card the Berkley Handicap for a purse of ,800 has been listed at one mile and 70 yards. Entries for the Berkley will close Tuesday. With the richer stakes of the meeting drawing closer it is expected that some of the leading candidates for these event* will be arriving daily to have their final preps | for their objectives.
