Illinois Illinois Season Season Opens Opens at at Sportsmans; Sportsmans; Ten Ten to to Vie Vie in in Renewal Renewal of of Chesapeake Chesapeake Inaugural Event In Two Divisions Limit Fields Named for Each Section of Sprint Headliner; Track Expected to Be Fast CICERO. 111., April 28.— Sportsmans Park, the sporty little Cicero course where the Chicago racing season will get under way tomorrow, will have two headline attractions instead of one on its opening-day bill. The Inaugural Handicap, scheduled feature for the day, was so crammed with entries that racing secretary Pat Galliger, with the permission of the management, split the affair two ways and it still has an also eligible list on each end. The distance of each of the feature races will be seven furlongs and they will come fifth and sixth on the eight-event bill. Night Shadow, strong runner from the stable of Mrs. Robert McGarvey. will be top weight in the fifth race, carrying 117 pounds, while Zaca Rosa, speedy trick who performs in the silks of W. W. Crenshaw, the California Banana Man." will tote like poundage in the sixth. Night Shadow May Be Favorite Night Shadow, who was one of the outstanding stars of the Oaklawn Park meeting at Hot Springs, has drawn No. 2 post position in her race and will have her work cut out for her in defeating her rivals, although she will likely be favored in the wagering. Opposed to the McGarvey filly will be Port Harmony, from the barn of J. M. Hirthens; Stitch Again, owned by W. W. Crenshaw; Maejames, owned by Mr. and Mrs. E. McEvoy: Sand Storm, the property of Mrs. A. M. Creech; Shasta Man, owned by Smith and Joseph; Topnard. from the Hilltop Farm; Chipamink. from the Silver Star Stock Farm; Try Fin, owned by D. Ness, and Take Away, who will run for L. Nehring. On the also eligible list in this affair are C. F. Martins Believe, Mrs. G. H. Emicks Time Was. White Spot Farms Three Clovers and B. M. Smiths Cooling Spring. Owners Crenshaw and the Hilltop Stock Farm will have a shot at both ends of the Inaugural, as Crenshaw will start Zaca Rosa in the sixth and Hilltop will send Bobs Dream postward in the same event. Others in the sixth race are Mrs. R. W. Mcllvains Bright Willie. J. H. Miles Rush Act, Circle W. Stables Eugene. D. C. Wil- helms Gourmet, H. Tikulskis Bolus. H. E. Mordens Flying Giant. Happy Hour Farms Martian, and D. Pallets Top Boots. On the also eligible list are Eniscorthy, Cabin Creek, and Quizzle. The longest event of the day. and like-1 wise the race to attract the smallest field, is the seventh, which will be known as the Sam Markel. K., Belfry Chimes, Alcinous, Amys Third and Starcress. The Inaugural program will get under way with a five-furlong dash and will be followed by a six and a half furlong race and two seven-furlong affairs. Then will come the two handicaps and the long distance race and the days sport will come to a conclusion with a mile and a sixteenth router. A substitute race at seven furlongs has been programmed. Sportsmans Park will wear its spring garb for opening day. The grass is well sprouted in the center field and the weather today was almost balmy enough for canoeing on the center field lake. The racing strip, which has been drying out steadily will, in all likelihood, be fast for opening day. First post time will be 2:00 p. m.
