I JUDGES STAND By Charles Nation Talent Scouting the Juveniles Fleet Flyweight Invades Belmont Stir Up Retaining Form — Gaver Jamaica Gives Choice Date to W. R. LOUISVILLE. Ky.. April 28. It is too early to know a great deal about the new crop of two-year-olds, excepting that some of them display the usual indi- | cations of being runners. Precocious juveniles of the type which is most formidable in the springs three- and four-furlong spins almost never develop into ■name horses. But do not regard Col. C. V. Whitneys Flyweight and Kenneth Murchi-i sons Poco Mas with the tired fatalism of a so- I I ! i I | I j j j j j j • . . ! I , . 1 • J l e c e M bej e B s. 0 0 in 0 ,0 0 cial worker. Flyweight is quite the Fasten kindergartner we have observed this spring, we think, despite her sore shin and watch-charm size. Neville Dunn rhapsodizes that "she runs as if she derives wild excitement from it — as if the sheer joy of beating the daylights out of other horses goes to her head and makes her hilariously happy." After the local Debutante Stakes next Wednesday Flyweight will invade Long Island for the Fashion. She is in the Princess Pat. though not the Lassie, at Chicago. Poco Mas is by the obscure Swahih, a sou of Sir Gallahad III. and the Stimulus mare Maradadi. Swahilis pedigree is strikingly like that of Stir Up. The Lafayette winner is inbred to Sir Gallahad III., in hat his dam is by Liberty Limited, another son of the distinguished Frenchman. Owner -! breeder Murchison is secretary of the Texas Breeders Association. Jamaicas Rosedale and Pimlico? Aberdeen resulted in stakes conquests by interesting newcomers. Leslie Grey captured the former, a filly event. Henry Lustigs homebred is a daughter of the popular Isolator. Flying Bridge negotiated the defeat of the Miami developments, Hoop Jr., Timeless and Don Chance, in the Aberdeen. He i* a son of Infinite, a reliable agent of speed and was a ,500 yearling. Flying Bridge races for Mrs. W. W. Adams and promises to enhance the attractiveness of New England "baby parades." It seems perfectly safe to predict others of stakes quality will emerge during Belmont Park-* spring meet, particularly in the National Stallion. Pericles, the 6,000 beauty in William Helis string, naturally will be the cynosure of all eye, when he debuts, as he may at Belmont. He appears a rather rambunctious colt to exercise, having several times run away at New Orleans and Belmont. A. C. Ernsts Algahad is the most expensive 43 yearling unveiled to race-; goers thus far this season. A 0,500 pur-: chase, this purple-pedigreed son of Sir Gallahad III. — Song of Battle, by Blenheim II. turns out to be growthy and may im-j prove over his two unsuccessful efforts at the Downs. Yesterday, we made some cas-[ ual reference to the Calumet juveniles. Exercising more particularly, owner- breeder Wright and trainer Jones fancy Full Stride. Pensives half brother. A filly in the string who may prove worthwhile "remembering is Ore-the-Lea. by Bull Lea from Nellie Flag. "Stir Up is holding his Florida form, I think." Princeton Johnny Gaver observed in his laconic way as the Flamingo-Wood victor cooled out this morning. Greentree is set ting a brisk and profitable pace in the race for money -winning honor * thus far in 44. In addition to housing the favorite for the 5,000 Derby, it has a formidable array of handicap talent, what with Devil Diver, Shut Out and Four Freedoms. "Four Freedoms has improved and I think he is still developing." Gaver said. Arcaro is to arrive on the Derby scene after piloting Four Freedoms in the Philadelphia Handicap at Pimlico next Tuesday. Gaver today inspected the 37 yearlings Mr*. Whitney has at Lexington. By the way, Stir Ups juvenile sister is called Stiminnie. The Metropolitan Jockey Club generously contributes one of its best spring dates to War Relief in its Grey Lag Handi* cap Day. May 6. That affair promises good "box office" with a moderate 5,006 endowment. Maryland tracks probably will donate from revenue of the current Pim-lOllico meet. Fifteen per cent of the gross is untaxable charity. Red Cross Week at i Louisville has met with a gratifying degree of public response.
