With Regards Clashes With Six Fast Rivals in Clang Handicap Grimes Racer Gives Weight To Sirde, Corona Corona in Sprint at Washington Park HOMEWOOD, 111., June 29. Three of the best horses to perform at the recently closed meeting at Bay Meadows will mingle with a quartet of mid-western stars in the Clang Handicap, feature race at Washington Park tomorrow. With Regards, Sirde and Happy Issue are the western representatives while Corona Corona, Bright Willie, Bolus and The Finest are those whose racing activities for the most part have been confined to the midwestern regions. Although the five-year-old With Regards from the stable of T. D. "Pinky" Grimes failed to win a race in several starts on the West Coast this year he is listed as top weight in the Clang with 120 pounds while Sirde, a three-year-old owned by Allen Drumheller of Walla Walla, Wash., will carry four pounds less. Corona Corona, who performs in the silks of C. U. Yaeger, will have 112 pounds aboard, Happy Issue, 109; Bolus, 107, Bright Willie, 106, and The Finest, 100. With Regards has been working well for his first outing in the Chicago area this season and if he displays his early season form of last year will be a factor worthy of considerable recognition. The son of Jack High and his speed in a workout Thursday morning when he went a half mile in :47. Sirde, beaten .by the Calumet Stables Armed on opening day, was slightly indisposed for a couple of days following that race but is again training well, while Corona Corona was never better. Corona Corona finished second to Occupation in the Beau Pere Handicap opening day. Race Named for American Record Holder The Clang is, of course, named for the American six- and seven-furlong record holder and one of the greatest sprinters of all time. It is at six furlongs for a ,000 purse. Although the headliner far overshadows the other events in importance and glamour, a fairly good supporting bill has been rounded out. Probably the most interesting of the remaining events will be a turf race at one and one-half miles in which Dorothy D. K., will try for her third success of the meeting on the grass. It is true that many horses improve greatly on the turf track and Dorothy D. K., is one of them. Others are Starcress and Valdina Marge both of whom will oppose her. They have won on the grass at this meeting. The turf event will be known as the Zev. A full field of older horses will line up in the opening race and a surprise entry is Son of Peace from the Calumet Farm. Son of Peace has heretofore raced only in handicaps. It is probable that he will attract the most attention. The second race is fashioned for three-year-olds. Among the entries is the Hawaiian Kope Kona, who was entered in the Kentucky Derby; Paddle, who was impressive first time out; Soldiers Cap, who was badly shut off when favored recently and Golden Cross, Ste. Frances, Abignonia and other promising runners. Two-year-olds will take part in both the third and fourth races. The third will be for fillies and trainer Howard Wells has named an entry in Harriet A., and Gleeful while juveniles such as Sky Wolf, a recent winner, Lytta-Jane favored last out, Bess Darling, Helen Night, another winner at Washington Park and Country Boy are listed as starters.
