WITH REGARDS Prepping for his engagement in todays Clang Handicap at Washington Park, the Grimes star worked a half mile in :47 yesterday morning. He also is a probable for Tuesdays Stars and Stripes Handicap, his showing in todays race to decide his status for the holiday fixture. Pensive, Sun Again Among Hopefuls For Stars and Stripes to Work Out Valdina Foe, Rounders Show Speed at Washington Oval; Thirteen Probables Listed HOMEWOOD, 111., June 29. Several of the leading candidates for next Tuesdays renewal of the 0,000 Stars and Stripes Handicap, including the two Calumet Farm "power houses," Sun Again and Pensive, were seen fn impressive private trials at Washington Park during the training hours this morning. Although trainer Ben Jones has not yet decided whether he will start the Kentucky Derby and Preakhess hero, Pensive, as an entry mate with the top-weighted Sun Again, the colt will be ready for battle, as he demonstrated this morning, when he rattled off a mile in 1:41 handily. Sun Again, who must shoulder 130 pounds in the Stars and Stripes, was confined to six furlongs, which he negotiated in 1:13, also in handy fashion. Other Stars and Stripes hopefuls in training moves this morning were John Marschs Valdina Foe, William G. Helis Rounders and Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Grimes With Regards. Valdina Foe was the only one to work the full distance of Tuesdays stake, a mile and a furlong, and he covered the distance in 1:52, the half mile in :49, the three-quarters in 1:13, and mile in 1:39. Rounders, breezing from the gate, covered five furlongs in 1:02, and With Regards, scheduled to take part in the Clang Handicap tomorrow, opened up a half mile in :47. Whether the Grimes horse takes part in the Stars and Stripes will depend on the showing he makes tomorrow. Will Be Ready for Best In covering his mile this morning Pensive was timed in :25 for the first quarter, in :50 for the half mile and 1:15 for the three-quarters, to suggest that if his connections decide to start him he will be ready for his best. Sun Again stepped the first half mile of his spin in :47. If Pensive and With Regards are among the starters, the Stars and Stripes, won last year by Rounders, is expected to draw a field of 13. Others pointing for the stake, the highlight of Chicago racings charity week, are Allen Drumhellers Georgie Drum, George J. Stempels Put In, A. J. Sacketts Tola Rose, Miss Ethel Hills, War Knight, H. P. Headleys Anticlimax, Howard Wells. Equifox, David Straus Daily Trouble and Mrs. Robert McGarveys Night Shadow. The Stars and Stripes Handicap is the first of two important stakes to be presented during the five days of Charity racing at Washington Park. The second is the 0,000 Skokie Handicap, in which three-year-olds, a number of them Arlington Classic and American Derby eligibles, will clash at seven furlongs. Meanwhile the management here is making preparations to handle one of the largest crowds in the history of Chicago racing next Tuesday.
