Wise Racer Outlasts Choice By Neck in Reigh Count Handicap at Homewood HOMEWOOD, 111., June 29. Bushwhacker was within a fifth of a second of an American record in defeating W. W. Crenshaws highly fancied Grasshopper H. by a neck in the Reigh Count Handicap, ,000 mile and a sixteenth turf course feature today at Washington Park. Though he was bearing out badly through the homestretch and lost much ground, B. H. Wises six-year-old Chance Shot stallion carried his 106 pounds over the distance in 1:44. The track and American mark is 1:44, the joint property of Take Wing and Beautiful II. Grasshopper II. was top weight under 122 pounds and almost overhauled the swerving Bushwhacker after surrendering the lead to that horse leaving the backstretch. "Tony" Skor-onski. He was three lengths before C. C. Tanners Best Effort, the Bashford Manor winner, at the final marker and Lt, Com. W. Montgomerys Fox Rime finished another three lengths back. Icangetit was roundly applauded when he jogged back to the winners enclosure. He paid .20 for and was timed the distance on a fast surface in 1:05 Ys, which time was three-fifths behind Free for Alls young track record. Skoronski sent the favorite into a daylight lead shortly after leaving the switch, discouraged Snow Boots and Alfa in the run around the turn then was kept at his task over the final furlong to beat Best Effort three lengths. The latter closed steadily from a rather slow beginning, but had not dash enough to reach Icangetit. Whose, a one-time stakes performer in the fashionable Greentree string, carried the colors of J. Freeman had the mount, sending Whose to Alar leaving the gate, opening up on the turn, disposing of the favored Alfios at the head of the lane then lasting to beat Hav-aheart a length in 1:24.
