Fairmount to Be in Top Condition for Opening Entire New Mutuel Department Built; Many Other Changes FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, 111., May 23. — With only two more days remaining before the opening of the 31 -day spring meeting at Fairmount Park, D. C. Burnett, general manager of the Fairmount Park Jockey Club, announced today that the plant positively would be ready for the annual session which begins here Saturday. While more than 00,000 has been spent in renovating the plant, Burnett said it was going to be a "photo-finish," but that the track would be in tip-top shape when the gates are opened Saturday. All of the important improvements have been completed and the only odd-jobs remaining are the laying, of bricks on the lawns, a little paint here and there, a little carpenter work and the usual cleaning up of the debris scattered throughout the plant. Regular Fairmount Park patrons will be astonished at the improvements made since last fall and th° plant appears to be a new one, since so many changes have been made during the winter and spring. Like many other sections where racing is conducted, Burnett believes this is going to be the best meeting held here since Col. Matt Winn and his associates had charge of the place in the late 20s.
