Galloway Gallops Home at Churchill Finishes Six Lengths Before Pappys Pride for Dixianas Second Winner on Card CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 12. — Galloway, a three-year-old homebred son of Count Gallahad — Tootsie Cake, carried Charles T. Fishers Dixiana silks to their second success of the day when he romped to an easy six-length triumph at the Downs in the first section of the Mate Purse. Confidently ridden by Steve Brooks, Galloway toyed with his rivals during the last three-eighths of the mile test and was merely galloping at the end. L. F. Spell-mans Pappys Pride ran second, and he was seven lengths before G and J Stables Quatre Blanc, third in the field of six three-year-old starters. Making his first start since the New Orleans winter season, Galloway was an impressive victor in his section of the Mate. Handling his 115-pound burden nicely, the Dixiana colt never was pressed at any stage of the journey and completed his task in 1:38%. One of the several favorites to score during the matinee, Galloway paid but .20 in the straight "tote" pool. Quatre Blanc Breaks First Quatre Blanc had the best speed away from the stalls, while Pappys Pride raced in nearest pursuit of the pacemaker to the upper turn, and Galloway was steadied along in fifth position until reaching the half-mile marker. Pappys Pride raced Quatre Blanc into defeat approaching the stretch and continued willingly, but he was no match for Galloway when the Dixiana colt made his bid. After a very brief duel Galloway put away Pappys Pride and then drew out to win with speed in reserve. Pappys Pride was an easy second over the tiring Quatre Blanc. Ideal weather prevailed for the sport today and a crowd of about 7,500 turned out for the ordinary program. Dixianas homebred Countess In, a daughter of Count Gallahad and Reigh Helen, graduated over 11 maiden two-year-old fillies in the fourth race. Jockey Steve Brooks handled Countess In, who led from start to finish, and defeated William Veenemans favored Sun Tavy by a length and one-half margin. Thomas B. Cromwells Little Naomi ran third, three lengths farther back. Second choice in the speculation, Countess In was good for .40 straight, and she raced the five furlongs in 1:01%.
