Boines Notes Improvement Of Double Jay at Delaware HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., May 17.Jim Boines, prominent Wilmington, Del., business man and co-owner of the fine three-year-old colt Double Jay, said here today that there was an overall improvement in the condition of the dark brown son of Balladier — Broomshot, who is currently stabled at Delaware Park. "Double Jay," said Boines, "is improving steadily. His coat looks much healthier, he is eating better and is acting like his old self again." Boines said he believes that Double Jay will be ready to race much sooner than was expected. If he continues to improve, he probably will be started in an overnight race before keeping his engagement in the Kent Stakes, Boines said. The Kent is one of Delaware Parks chief three-year-old fixtures. Double Jay, who was voted best two-year-old colt for 1946, was transferred to Delaware from Pimlico following his withdrawal from the Preakness. Although veterinarians declare the handsome colt is entirely sound, it was found he was badly run down and a long rest was recommended.
