Full Crew at Work Readying Fairmount Plant for Opening FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, 111., May 17.— With the opening less than two weeks off, Fairmount Park has taken on that new and polished look which always shows up at a race track just previous to opening day. Track superintendent John Le Blanc has his full crew busy these days going over the entire plant and putting everything in readiness for what the management feels will be the finest meeting the Collinsville plant has had in several years. Among the most noticeable improvements is a new color plan in the grandstand. The seats have been repainted, with each section a different color. The colors chosen were orange, blue and red. The main purpose in this plan is to simplify finding the patrons seats on the more crowded days at the track. Aside from the painting of the seats, the entire grandstand is being gone over completely, and the press box is being given a full dressing. The racing strip itself is being groomed to perfection. The actual running strip will be better this season than at any time within the last decade. Le Blanc is sparing no effort to round the Fairmount oval into the safest and best condition is has been since the plant was built in 1925. Meanwhile, the barns are rapidly filling at Fairmount. There are already well over 350 horses on the grounds and with accommodations for approximately 600. it is now clear that Fairmount will have plenty of horses to put on a highly successful meeting. Racing secretary C. Henderson Van Zandt is expected to be on hand at the track well before the meeting opens. He has been commuting between Fairmount and the Hipodromo de las Americas for the last couple of weeks, but plans on coming to Fairmount within the next week to take over the entire handling of the secretarys office.
