Gaekwar of Baroda Achieves Notable Double at Lingfield LINGFIELD, England, May 17 Reuters. — The Gaekwar of Baroda achieved a notable double this afternoon with two horses who cost him a total of 89,600. His Derby candidate, the 17,600 Sayajirao, won the Derby Trial Stakes over a mile and a half and the 2,000 two-year-old colt, Star of Gujrath, won the Weir Courte-nay Plate — the second race of his career. Sayajirao won impressively by six lengths from Mrs. M. Buchanans two runners, Glendowner and the hitherto unbeaten Stockade, who were second and third of the nine runners. Both victors were ridden by the Australian-born Edgar Britt. Probably the greatest volume of applause ever heard at Lingfield greeted the victory of the favored Sayajirao. His Derby odds, which were 100 to 7 before todays race, will be drastically reduced as a result of his easy victory.
