Corinthian Steeplechase Lures Eleven Postward Fleettown and Homogenize May Vie for Belmont Favoritism BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., June 1. — The Corinthian Steeplechase Handicap is the featured offering tomorrow. This ,500 added prize over the about two-mile course of 12 jumps brings together a field of 11. The field is a representative one and engages some of the best from that division in training. The weight assignments are not severe, especially for this caliber of jumper, as a spread of 12 pounds separates the high and the low weights. Tourist List, Elkridge and Fleet-town share the top impost of 149 pounds, while Rank is the lightweight with 137. In the overnight list there is one coupling, Trough Hill and American Way. They will race as the Mrs. S. C. Clark and Rokeby Stable entry. The Corinthian is one of the older steeplechase offerings in New York. The race was inaugurated at Morris Park in 1902 and in 1905 was transferred to Belmont. Some of the outstanding fencers of the past were returned winners of this offering which in their respective years did not carry the rich financial award now earned by the winner. The Greentree Stables Jolly Roger in his successful year, 1928, carried 172 to earn ,450. Pre-race opinion was centered about Fleettown and Homogenize. The opinion was arrived at following the study of the weights and distance of the International Steeplechase Handicap. Homogenize, representing the Auburn Farms, was returned an easy winner of that offering over Fleet-town racing for the Brookmeade Stable. The Auburn representative was in receipt of 10 pounds on that occasion. Tomorrow they are equally weighted, a decided advantage in favor of the Mrs. Dodge Sloane-owned fencer. In that race, Lieut. Well, Elkridge, Drift and Trough Hill, in that order, rounded out the field. However, they were thoroughly trounced, either falling or finishing eight lengths back of the place horse. The few pounds difference in weights tomorrow, while favorable for improvement, does not assure such betterment. Galactic raced well in a recent race and is one that could improve. Drift must show vast improvement to be given serious consideration although in his last he raced forwardly for the first turn of the field. In the other races on the program, the Bonnie Mary Handicap for fillies and mares looms up as the best.. Five were named for this mile test. Miss Request is the topweight in here with 119. Scattered, Back Talk, My Emma and Nina Bruja round out the list. A capacity field of three-year-olds will contest the six furlongs of the fifth race. This allowance test attracted some of the stake nominees for the Peter Pan and Belmont/"
