Lindheimer, executive director of Arlington Park and Washington Park race tracks, yesterday announced a 1950 coordinated stakes and purse program for the two Chicagoland tracks totaling over ,250,000, Americas richest summer racing program. The program designed by lindheimer and racing secretary Frank E. "Jimmy" Kilroe continues the policy of giving horses in all classifications frequent stakes opportunities. In announcing the stakes schedule for this year, Lindheimer stated: "Arlington Park and Washington Park are pleased to offer this stakes program as a continuation of their efforts to help build American racing. We believe that the owners, breeders and trainers are entitled to a program of these standards." A total of 27 stakes events will be run during the 67-day season which begins at Arlington Park on June 19 and closes at Washington Park on Labor Day. The handicap division is highlighted by the Arlington Handicap, which this year becomes the richest handicap of the summer season. The Arlington will carry an added value of 5,000 for its 1950 running. Transfer Stars and Stripes to Grass The 0,000 Washington Park Handicap remains the top event in the division at the Homewood course, and added to these are Arlingtons Equipoise Mile, Washington Parks Whirlaway Stakes, both 5;000 added, at a mile. Of increasing importance through the years in the handicap division has been stakes events on the grass, where Arlington Park and Washington Park have led the way in establishing a high caliber of sport in this colorful phase of racing. The movement to bring the top horses to the grass-course events receives great impetus this year with the announcement that the traditional Stars and Stripes Handicap will be run on the turf course. The Stars and Stripes, and Washington Parks Meadowland Handicap, will each carry an added value of 5,000. In the three-year-old division, the nationally prominent 0,000 Arlington Classic and 0,000 American Derby will again be featured events.
