Capacity Attendance At KTBA Derby Dinner Broodmare Award to Easy Lass, Accepted by Paul Ebelhardt CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky.. May 3. — The annual pre-Derby dinner of the Kentucky thoroughbred Breeders Association, at which trainers of Derby starters are the honored guests, was held last night in the roof garden of the Brown Hotel. A capacity audience of turf writers, breeders, and horsemen attended. Trainers of the various Derby horses were called upon to speak, but their remarks were frugal. Most of them did not put themselves out on the "proverbial limb." Roscoe Goose, president of the club and Clifford Lussky, arranged last nights dinner and entertainment. Bill Coram, the new president of Churchill Downs, served as master of ceremonies. Benny Fields, the well-known entertainer, provided songs and stories. A highlight of the evening was the "floor show" presentation of the dessert. The waiters, in bringing in the molded ice cream and cake, depicted the original grandstand at Churchill Downs, the parade to the post, and the winners circle. At the close of the session, the club presented its annual broodmare award. Calumet Farms Easy Lass, dam of Coaltown and Wistful, was the honored mare of 1949. Paul Ebelhardt, acting on behalf of Calumet, accepted the award.
