Solero Jr Head Winner In Fairmount Park Dash DashVictory Victory With Harding Gelding Rounds Out Double for Young YoungBy By J J HAHN HAHNFAIRMOUNT FAIRMOUNT PARK Collinsville 111 May 2 The long springsummer meeting of the Fairmount Park Jockey Club was resumed here Tuesday night following the usual Dark Monday and featuring the ninerace program was the Belleville Purse a six furlongs dash for threeyearolds and in which seven went postward In as game an exhibition as seen here W S Hardings Solero Jr a gelded son of Solero under a rousing ride by apprentice R E Young got up in the laststrides to garner a head decision over Mr and Mrs G B Holmans Law Shifter ShifterThird Third in the small field was the Silver Creek Farms Marcy Day who was making her first start since last July and installed the favorite by most of the 5253 fans who took in the sport Others contesting and finishing in order over the track termed Good were Captain Buster Shade S Tex Lerno and On Again AgainMarcy Marcy Day who had been showing sparkling morning trials attempted to steal the event from her opponents opening a good lead quickly over Shade S Law Shift ¬ er and Captain Buster while the ultimate winner began sluggishly and raced in sixth position After the opening threeeighths Shade S dropped back to third and Law Shifter moved up to force the pace as Solero Jr was hitting his stride and moved into fourth position positionAs As they reached the head of the stretch Law Shifter took over the top spot with the ultimate winner moving up second and Marcy Day shortening stride dropped back to third In the drive to the wire Young elected to steer his mount to the outside and responding gamely under strong urg ¬ ing the gelding mowed down gradually the good lead Law Shifter held an eighth from the finish finishIt It was one of those nipandtuck duels in which Solero Jr proved the stronger and got up to score the second victory of his career At the end Law Shifter was a comfortable three and onehalf lengths in front of the favorite who barely outstayed Captain Buster BusterThe The Solero Jr victory was the second scored on the program by owner Harding as his I Froo also ridden by Young copped the six furlongs fourth race winning by a wide margin over Dictionary Almenow and five others Young was the only rider to drive home a pair of successes successesWellbalanced Wellbalanced fields make up the Thurs ¬ day night program and heading the card is the Zerape Purse a sixfurlong dash in which 10 are scheduled to meet under allowance conditions It is for three and fouryearolds and expected to parade postward are Fluffy McDuffy Viruza Open Request Our Laura Razor Blade Kirkwood Kid Miss Dana Patty Peg Shoot Man and Ionic
