Three Apprentices at Wheeling WheelingWHEELING WHEELING DOWNS Wheeling W Va May 2 What seems an unusual circum ¬ stance at the West Virginia meeting is a shortage of apprentice riders only three bug boys having applied for and been granted licenses thus far with 10 days of a 31day session completed These are Wil ¬ liam Pindell 18 whose contract has been leased from Frank Whitely by James C Cremen His engagements are being han ¬ dled by Harry Jeffra former leatherpush ¬ er who also agents for journeyman Joe French the latter presently in a threeway tie for second place in the jockey standings here Charles E Wood 24yearolder from Jackson Michigan and Philip Borgemenke 18 of the racing family whose better known members include the veteran reinsman Ralph and Leo under whose auspices the fledging will ride in the Mountain State Both the latter are uncles to the younger Borgemenke
