Proposal for New Detroit Harness Track Hits Snag SnagFarmington Farmington Township Board Turns Down Plea to Rezone Site DETROIT Mich May 2 Another chapter has been written in the seemingly endless fourthtrack story here with the rejection of a proposed harness track in Farmington Township TownshipAt At a rezoning hearing the Farmington Township board refused to rezone a 244 acre site at 10Mile and Haggerty Roads from residential to commercial to accom ¬ modate the proposed track trackAlthough Although the action was only a recom ¬ mendation by the board the promoters of the track said that their group would not appeal or further their efforts in that com ¬ munity munitySeveral Several hundred residents jammed the township hall to oppose the request of B F Gregoric George S Kovacs and HaiTy Vreeland Gregoric is known as the father of Hazel Park for his work in designing the Hazel Park track but he dropped out of that track before it was completed in 1949 1949Gregoric Gregoric and his associates had said that they planned to build a 5500000 sports center including a fiveeighths of a mile track They failed to submit a detailed plan of the track and that was the town ¬ ship boards mainreason for turning down the rezoning bid bidKovacs Kovacs president of the General Mach ¬ ine Tool Co Walled Lake Mich and sec ¬ retarytreasurer of the track group ex ¬ plained We did not submit a detailed plan because of the cost involved We have two other sites in mind within a sixmile radius of the Detroit city limits and were going ahead with these theseAt At present Gregoric said that the group formerly known as Novi Speedways Inc but now preparing to reincoporate is con ¬ sidering only harness racing He did rule out the possibility of thoroughbred racing
