Chicagoland harness fans will be sad ¬ dened by the news that Mavwood Park track superintendent Joseph Harbutt died at his home in Cicero last night after he had spent as usual a long and busy day at the westside plant Har ¬ butt had been with Maywood Park since that track opened in 1946 He was an un ¬ commonly hard work ¬ ing man on duty from early morning to late at night and this season for season A very popular man with his superiors and subordinates as well with horsemen Har ¬ butt last year had the thrill of his life when numerous seasons records and a worlds record were established at May wood Park When he became associated with the Maywood trotting track Harbutt brought a wealth of experience and know how with him acquired in many years of service at various race tracks all over the country He first worked with the old Balir starting gate at the now defunct Latonia race track and was later employed at Hawthorne and Sportsmans Park In between Harbutt was an owner and trainer of thoroughbred and harness horses Al ¬ ways helpful and friendly he will be sorely missed by his legion of friends while his sudden and unexpected demise is a great loss to Maywood Park Only 53 years old at the time of his untimely death Harbutt is survived by his widow his daughter Rose Marie and his son Matthew The wake will be held at Kularek funeral parlor 49th Avenue and 31st Street Cicero HI and the funeral willbe held on Saturday morning morningSiss Siss Brother a fouryearold gelding by Palachuck Adbella Heberling owned trained and driven by Elmer Conrad who also bred this promising trotter in one of the finest trotting performances here this season chalked up his third straight triumph and soundly trounced a bulky field including Brightside Farms highly regarded Bold Rodney Although starting from the second tier Siss Brother did not waste much time in get ¬ ting the lead and immediately opened up a commanding Iead Rated at a brisk pace Siss Brother was 10 lengths ahead of his field at the halfmile mark Only Bold Rodney a notoriously slow starter was able to make some ground in the final quarter but could not reach his older opponent Siss Brother is not the first good horse Elmer Conrad ever had Maywood Park regulars surely remember his outstanding pacing marc Miss Ruby who was a standout in the Midwest for many seasons and is now a broodmare at Conrads Indiana farm farmFouryearolds Fouryearolds had the best of it in the second division of Tuesdays trot stake Like Bold Rodney in the first heat Paul Jackson was a prohibitive oddson favorite in the second division but once again pre j race calculations were upset by a strong contender who in this case was the Michi ¬ ganowned filly Jude Hanover Paul Jack ¬ son was away fastest while Jude Hanover outsprinted Moray for the second position Jerry Mclllmurray in the sulky behind Jude Hanover drove a fine waiting race delaying his bid until the sixteenth pole to pass the slightly tiring Paul Jackson in the last few yards This was the fourth victory for Jude Hanover at this meeting she join ¬ ing Floyd Miltons Dixie Tass and Everett Sherrys Johnnie Russell as the leading winners at this meeting meetingLater Later in the evening Abbe Run also captured his fourth straight race since opening night to bring his trainerdrive Glenn Kid wells total to an amazing 12 victories out of 27 starts In a CC class pace Frisky Lad driven by owner trainer Harry Clark of OswegoIll won his third consecutive race here since coming from Magnolia Park The Grat tan Lad gelding will have to meet B class competition from now on but whether he will be able to do it success ¬ fully depends upon how fast he can actually go So far his best winning time this season was 210 which is at least three seconds off B class standards standardsThe The Ohio wonder horse Bob Ruggles a disappointment in his first start here last week over a slow track convinced Tuesday nights crowd that he has a touch of
