Dan E. Stewart, Retired Trainer, Succumbs at 70 Conditioned Rose of Sharon And Other Prominent Horses Dan E. Stewart, 70, veteran trainer who has resided in nearby Worth. .111. since his retirement, died early Monday in Little Company of Mary Hospital where he had been confined for the past two weeks. Stewart was well known on Chicago, Kentucky and Maryland tracks and among the horses he handled was the great Rose of Sharon who was owned and bred by the late Senator Johnson N. Camden. Rose of Sharon raced under Stewarts colors several times and was regarded as the top race mare of her generation.
