Jackies Comet Sprints To Five-Length Victory Pieri Racer Downs Charlies Boy and Kelkata at Lincoln By TEDDY COX LINCOLN DOWNS, Lincoln, P. I., May 5. — Sports entrepeneur Lou Pieri saw his racing silks flash to a spectacular triumph when his Little Rhody Farm banner was carried by Jackies Comet in the Old Stone Mill Purse here this dreary afternoon. The three-year-old son of Teddys Comet — Selenga H., by Tourbillon, was cleverly ridden by Ronnie Fisher, who bided his time until approaching the stretch, when .he moved "with a flourish. Jackies Comet provided enough spark to score by five lengths. W. W. Carrolls Charlie Boy was second, one and a half lengths in front of W. H. Daykins Kelkata, while Everett Lowrances speedy, Wine Jr. was the big j .. tsV u f „p r,*uy. disappointment of the field, finishing fourth. Jackies Comet, who last competed against the very best- sophomores on the grounds, was backed into .40-for- favoritism and gave his followers little reason for concern. His time over the muddy track for the 5 furlongs was 1:00%. It was his second victory of the year. Heavy rains over the week end kept the track in a muddled state and it fell intermittently throughout the day. The turnstile count was "9,502. Circle K Farms Carrara Lamar, who was regarded as one ofrthe outstanding youngsters to perform here last season, finally showed some of his best speed in the run . down the backstretch and around the turn,, when he vied for honors with Prince Bound. Their early fight carried them well clear of the others, but once the real battle began as they neared the stretch both shortened their stride and Jackies Comet moved with authoritative briskness that gained him the upper hand before they were settled for the stretch drive. From there to the finish, Jackies Comet drew off steadily. | f- rvwt it j I C 3 S.-5-r 2
