Claiming Race Features Toda/s Card at Beulah Tidy Ann Looms Odds-on Choice In Perma-Stone Columbus Dash By W. A. CRUSE BEULAH PARK, Grove City. Ohio, May 5.— The Beulah Park Jockey Club Inc.. opened its doors for a 19-day meeting last Saturday and from all indications there will be a sizable increase in attendance and mutuel handle for the forthcoming session. On Saturday, 7,180 fans were on hand and wagered 1,287 despite the face that it was "Derby Day." For Tuesday, the third day of the meeting, Tacing secretary Fred Burton scraped the barrel to come up with a program of seven claiming races and a maiden event for juvenile fillies. However, the week-end long rains in the Columbus area made the racing strip a veritable sea of slop and mud which must account for the lack of lustre in the card. j The seventh race, a 5and-furlong dash for three-year-olds and older horses in the ,500 to ,000 claiming brackets will serve as the feature. As such, it is entitled the Perma-Stone Columbus Inc.. and there are eight drawn on the overnight to try for a portion of the ,100 purse. J. Bronnenbergs Tidy Ann undoubtedly will be the odds-on favorite in the betting. She has had an outing over the course and finished a bang-up second to O. Rosettes Royal Radiance on opening day. She was second choice with the winner and was beaten two and. one-half lengths after being in tight quarters coming out of the stretch turn. Jockey Bobby Wall, who rode her in that affair, is tentatively scheduled on the overnight and the combination looms the one to eaten. Others In the race include S. D. Murphys Jock Scott, F. Morgans Roboh, Cordesco and Spincers Friendly Man? Rosenauer and Wards Lookout, R. Follicks Hypocritical and L. Maddens Spring Rain. W. R. and H. Ruff and R. Pedigos Sure He Did was withdrawn from last Saturdays seventh race but is no stranger to Beulah Park. He earned four wins and three thirds out of 10 starts, last year and finished the season here last October. Two of his victories were on a very muddy racing strip in the month of May and the altered son of With Pleasure — Nell Noll has beaten a much more impressive field than this.
