New England Notes SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 1. King Ranchs Energetic, who unsuccessfully invaded Suffolk Downs in quest of last Saturdays Governors Handicap, was returned to Garden State Park yesterday morning. Jockey Darrell Madden, who made the trip up here to ride Energetic, left here Saturday night. He is also returning to the New Jersey track. Johnny McCabe, remembered by the old-timers as the rider of Old Rosebud, winner .of the 1914 Kentucky Derby, arrived at Suffolk Downs yesterday with five thoroughbreds. The public stable is made up of Mr. Request, Milk War, Chirrup, Red Skirt and Pic-On-Me. A large representation from Suffolk |Downs plans to attend a testimonial dinner Bin honor of Frank Ryan, former publicity ■director of the Boston track, to be held this F evening at the Hotel Somerset. Ryan has ■ recently been appointed to the Board of r Directors for the Boston Bruins hockey Lteam. W Apprentice Antonio Catalano is making ■good his comeback after a bad injury last wear at Rockingham. The Arlington, Va., Rad is leading the riders for the first seven Idays with eight victories. ■JNCOLN DOWNS, Lincoln, R. I., May 1. Jockey Joe Savarese plans to leave here Hmmediately upon the conclusion of the ■meeting for Suffolk Downs. B Jockey Eddie Fayard leaves for his home ■to New Orleans tomorrow morning, where will be married June 4. He will return to Narragansett Park, where he will resume riding. Asa Brown, who trains the Highland Farm string, checked in today from Charles Town, W. Va., with four head — High Handy, Svengali, Phil Harris and Dark Child. Sam McCrensky, local Jockeys agent for Harold Allgaier, is also being engaged to handle the riding engagements of apprentice R. Lawless.
