The latter ran a good race and. better ridden, would have won. Brevite, away slowly, came fast through the stretch and was gaining at the end. Rowland began slowly and came with a rush through the stretch. Locust Bud was caught in a jam soon after the start and unseated her rider. Azo, much the best, was suited by the long distance and. after being saved for a mile and a half, came away to wih as his rider pleased. Stone Street appeared to be sulking for the first mile and was far back, but moved up witli a rush in the last quarter and got up in the last few strides for second place. Maid Militant moved up gamely after going, a mile, but tired near the end. Oroonoka showed the most speed for a li ii. but tired when hard pressed. Bryce was never prominent. Zeola ran a good race, was prominent all the way and might have won hut for being sharply humped by Melissa. Plume, away fast, showed the most speed for three-quarters, but tired badly when hard pressed. Dextrine was well up throughout. Claiborne ran well for three-quarters. Ray II. was pulled up ill the stretch almost broken down. The winner, entered for , was bid up to ,100 and retained.
