R. T. WILSON. JR.S YEARLING PURCHASES. Youngsters Bought from John E. Madden Are Colts by Yankee, Ogden and Planudes, New York. July 3. The twenty yearlings that Richard T. Wilson, Jr., president of the Saratoga Association, purchased from John E. Madden the past week are all colts. The sires represented are Yankee, Ogden and Planudes, nil three of which have recently earned considerable fame tty reason of the performances of their sons and daughters. Probably the most promising of the band at this time is a half-brother to Newmarket, Stokes, Tim her aud Adbell, being out of Nahma. He is a youngster of commanding appearance, and in tin? paddock at Lexington he impressed hy his style in galloping. Another is a brother to Joe Madden, and a son of Royal Gun is also of the lot. Brothers to Big Stick and Shannon are also in the purchase. The youngsters were shipped from Hamburg Place to Saratoga about a month ago and they have already been broken. They are going through the first part of their track education at Saratoga and will probably be kept there until fall, when they will be shipped to Belmont Park for the late fall trials. Mr. Wilson has commodious quarters at Belmont Park and the lot will be wintered there with the other horses that will carry his colors. Such a purchase by a sportsman like Mr. Wilson means much for racing. His colors have always been particularly popular and many a good horse has raced under them. This year he began his racing with the opening of the season at Pimlico, and he has been a liberal nominator throughout the season, though his stable has not shown any real stars. He will undoubtedly be better equipped in 1910. Mr. Wilson is a sportsman who has always had an abiding faith in the future of racing in America, and his latest inrcstment is only one more evidence of his confidence iu the stability of the greatest of all sports. From such a lot of well-bred colts he should surely secure some top-notchers.
