I 1 I RAIN AND MUD AT OMAHA Weather Keeps Down Attendance at Ak-Sar-Ben Field — Conquistador Wins Feature. OMAHA, Neb., June 4. — A heavy rain, which started to fall shortly before race time j and continued throughout the afternoon, kept down the attendance at Ak-Sar-Ben Field today, but those of the faithful who did malce the trip to the track, enjoyed a good program and were fairly successful in locating the winners. The track was very muddy and extremely difficult to negotiate and the fields in most of the races were small. The Jarvis-Waggoner Starting Gate, which failed to function properly yesterday, was used in the first four starts this afternoon. The straps or webbing which stretch across the front of each stall and were the cause of the trouble yesterday were eliminated today and the regular barrier was used in front of the stalls. This arrangement seemed to work out to the satisfaction of all. The best race of the afternoon was the fourth and this was won by the bad post actor Conquistador. The stall-gate seemed to put this rogue on his good behavior and he began quickly and held a good advantage all the way. The Doctor finished second, six lengths back of the winner, while Sheriff Seth was third. The opening race was for horses foaled in Nebraska and Genesee Belle, the favorite, was the winner. The filly was given a good ride by jockey Armstrong and led all the way. Maudie M. M. finished second and Gladys McAllister was third. Conciliation, a useful sort, won the second race from a big band. This mare proved her mettle by coming from behind to take the purse from several faster but faint-hearted animals. Azov and Bon Fils were second and third, respectively. The six-year-old Milton found a track to his liking in the third race and plowed through the mud to get up in time to win by a nose. Stroller was the one that took second place and Maunaolu was third.
