SANDE DUE AT HOMEWOOD Great Rider Expected to Reach Washington Park Wednesday With His Stable. Earl Sande is due to arrive Wednesday at Washington Park with his own stable, which includes Hermitage, a bay colt, by Friar Rock — Kathryn Harlan ; Nearby, bay filly, by Friar Rock — Continent ; Safety Pin, chestnut filly, by Friar Rock — Stick Pin, all three-year-olds and American Derby eligibles ; Revel, a three-year-old chestnut filly, by Bud Lerner — Miss K., which is an eligible for the Illinois Oaks, over one and one-eighth miles, on Saturday, June 22. This race has an added value of 0,000. Sande has eight horses. His chestnut filly Rest, by Star Master — Rocking Chair, has been lost to racing through a mishap. It is understood Sande plans to start Hermitage in the American Derby if the colt shows a return to speed in trials over the Washington Park course. He ran disappointingly not long ago. Sandes opinion of Hermitage is high. He has indicated that it is his intention to change the colts name to Sandes Choice. Sande has written to Joseph McLennan, racing secretary, that he anticipates success here. He is new in Chicago racing as an owner, but his fame as a rider is established in these parts. It is Sandes idea to remain around Chicago for the remainder of the season. He will be seen under colors on his own horses, a concession granted by the Illinois Turf Association. Sande has not ridden in the American Derby, but he won the Kentucky Derby in 1923 with Harry F. Sinclairs Zev, and with Gifford Cochrans Flying Ebony he scored his second triumph in that race. William Duke saddled the winner. Duke, figuring correctly that it would rain, had Flying Ebony shod for such an emergency. His foresight and Sandes riding were responsible for one of the many thrills of the Kentucky classic.
