CURTIS PLEASED WITH VISIT Vice-President Departs for Washington After Witnessing Big Race at Churchill Downs. LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 19.— Vice President Curtis and Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Gann, who were the guests of Colonel Winn at the Brown Hotel at Churchill Downs for Derby weekend, left for Washington Sunday. They had a most interesting and enjoyable visit and were loud in their praises of Louisville hospitality. Mrs. Gann, although her husband is a Kentuckian, witnessed her first Derby and she promises never to miss another. She found Churchill Downs picturesque and beautiful, the crowd immense, and care free and the race gave her the thrill of a lifetime. Vice President Curtis said: "My visit to Churchill Downs as the guest of Colonel Winn will be one of my happiest memories, for his hospitality was perfect and it gave me the opportunity to see one of the greatest Derbys in the long history of Churchill Downs. It was a true run race and the best horte won. My love for the Derby was born with my experience as a boy and I can never lose my interest in racing and my affection for a game thoroughbred. As I said in presenting the gold cup to Mrs. Whitney, the management of Churchill Downs is to be congratulated not only on the quality of the horses that ran in the Derby, but on the handling of the vast multitude that saw the race."
