FLORIDA RACING VICTORY Senate Passes Bill Over Governors Veto — Measure Now Up to House for Final Action. NEW YORK, N. Y., June 2.— Joseph E. Widener was informed today over the long distance telephone of the passage of the Florida Racing Bill by the Senate over Governor Carltons veto. The vote was 26 to 12, and Mr. Widener was naturally elated over the result. He said that last night there had been an immense mass meeting held in Miami in favor of the racing bill, and the sense of the meeting was sent over to Tallahassee before the meeting of the legislature. The meeting showed the feeling of the people of Florida, and Mr. Widener expressed the hope that the House would follow the lead of the higher house. The passing of the measure over the veto of the Governor was an expression of desire of the people of Florida, and there was reason for congratulations. Mr. Widener said he did not care to anticipate what would be done in the House when the bill is returned to them, but the action of the Senate was a victory of importance, and he had a hope that racing would be saved for the state.
