PROVINCIAL NURSERY STAKES I*la::s Being Made for Juvenile Feature of Montreal Jockey Club — Increase Distance. MONTREAL, Que., June 2.— Despite the depression which has affected racing everywhere, directors of the Montreal Jockey Club are not only going ahead with preparations for their big June meeting, but also have taken a preliminary step in advance of the autumn meeting. The Provincial Nursery, one of the oldest home-bred stakes of the Montreal Jockey Club, will be run this year over five and a half furlongs instead of five furlongs, according to announcement made by secretary Louis A. Angevin. The action was taken yesterday at a meeting of the executives of the Montreal Jockey Club, following presentation of a petition by local breeders. The race is for two-year-olds foaled in the province, and has been raced for since 1909, excepting in 1917, when war caused a cancellation.
