■ 1 , ; , AMERICAN DERBY TRAINING Prominent Candidates Work Well for Big Race — Older Stars Prepare for Stake Engagements. HOMEWOOD, 111., June 2.— Oswego. Insco, Up and Epithet, candidates for the American Derby; Silver Beauty, prominent among the starters for the Illinois Oaks, and the handicap stars, Bargello, The Nut and Jimmy Moran, were seen in good trials over the Washington Park or Lincoln Fields track this morning. Silver Beauty, the Keeneland Studs daughter of Stefan the Great and Jeanne Bowdre, had her final stiff preparation for Saturdays renewal of the Oaks when she worked the stakes distance of one mile and one-eighth in 1:58% over the good track that prevailed at Washington Park this morning. She went the quarter in :25%, half mile in :51%, three-quarters in 1:17% and the mile in 1:44%, the trial, handily accomplished, being one of the most impressive by any of three candidates for that important 0,000 added fixture. Oswego worked three-quarters in 1:16%, handily, while Insco went three-eighths in :37% in preparation for something more testing tomorrow, and Up three-quarters in 1:17, handily, at the local track, and Epithet breezed three furlongs in :38 at Lincoln Fields. At the Crete course The Nut was sent three-quarters in 1:16%, while Bargello ripped off a like distance at Washington Park in 1:15%. handily, and Jimmy Moran five-eighths over the same good strip in 1:03%, handily. The track at Lincoln Fields was fast for the Tuesday training moves. Cousin Jo and Sunny Lassie, among the crack three-year-olds. Silver Beauty will encounter in the Oaks filled engagements during the afternoon, as did Sweep All. Pitts-burgher and Scotlands Glory, western stalwarts after American Derby honors, and Up, winner of the Agua Caliente Derby, makes his first appearance before Chicago enthusiasts when he contests the Kensington Handicap, feature of the Wednesdays racing at Washington Park.
