POSSIBLE LATE WITHDRAWAL Grand National Steeplechase Now Has 37 Eligibles Americans Arriving for Race. Special Cablegram. LIVERPOOL., England, March. 16. The field for the Grand National Steeplechase, which will be run here on Friday, was reduced to thirty-seven starters today by the withdrawal of Sir John Greys Possible. He was one of the long shots in the future betting and one of the group given the minimum weight of 147 pounds. Lord Glenapps Annandale may also be an absentee. Although he pulled up lame after a gallop yesterday, he was shipped with the Marquis De San Miguels The Ace IL, and Major Keith Mensies Gibus, which also are in Major F. W. Barretts stable, from Wroughton to Aintree. Annandale will be examined by a veterinary tonight and the question of starting the ten-year-old gelding will then be decided. Major Barrett believes that his charge will start. Many Americans are arriving for the race. The Cunard liner Lancastria brought a considerable contingent yesterday. Although of doubtful quality, Sea Soldier, the only "All American entry," has evoked much interest. Sea Soldier was nominated for the Grand National by A. H. Niblack, but he is owned by a syndicate of ten Chicago turf enthusiasts. There are twelve other American-owned candidates in the field and all will carry many sentimental bets by American visitors. The Grand National this year will not attract any members of the royal family, unless there is a last-minute change of plans. Lord Derby, whose estate at Knowsley, nearby, may also be unable to attend. It is expected that the crowd will be as large as any previous gathering. Local hotels report an unprecedented demand for accommodations. 4
