j LUCKY TOM IN TRIAL FOR LOUISIANA DERBY NEW ORLEANS, La., March 16. Lucky Tom, J. J. Robinsons chief hope for honors in the 0,000 added Louisiana Derby, to be decided over one mile and an eighth, at the Fair Grounds Saturday, closing day of the meeting and season, had his final work of consequence for that engagement when he rattled off a fast mile over a fast track today. TJnpaced and with jockey A. Pas-cuma in the saddle, the son of Master Charlie covered the distance in 1:43. The trial, in which he was never fully extended, was one of the fastest covered by a candidate for Saturdays feature. He ran the first quarter in :24, the half in :48 and three-quarters in 1:15. Trainer H. C. Riddle, who personally supervised Lucky Toms rehearsal, reported that Renaissance, also owned by Robinson, came out of his race Tuesday in good condition and he will share the carrying of the Robinson silks with Lucky Tom Saturday. Only the regular short speed trials will be asked of the Derby aspirants before they go to the post, and a majority of them will be under saddle for this light, but important, concluding preparation Friday morning. Playtime and Jimmy Moran, likely starters in the mile Old Town Purse, also on the closing day program, were seen in fast moves this morning, when the former went one mile in 1:42, handily, and the latter a like distance in 1:45, breezing.
