CIRCULET LEADS SPRINTERS Is Second Winner Ridden by Mann on Blue Bonnets Track. Count Bruno and Lord Rockville Second and Third in Maurice Chevalier Handicap Rock Point Graduates. AIONTREAL, Que., Sept. 6 Sprinters from the home-bred division furnished the contention in tho Maurice Chevalier Handicap, at six furlongs, which served as the principal race for the third day of the meeting being staged by the Montreal Jockey Club at Blue Bonnets. A field of seven; racing in the interest of six different owners, measured strides, and the test increased the winning performances of M. Keelings Circulet and rounded out a double for jockey Frank Mann when he had the six-year-old chestnut colt across the winning line to defeat J. B. Millers Count Bruno a length and one half. Third was accounted for by Lord Rockville, of the R. H. New stable, and Mrs. C. H. Conyers Optical led the three remaining starters. Holding favoritism over his smart opposition, Circulet, from a good beginning, lost no time in taking command when sent along by Mann, and, although threatened by Optical in the early stages, the son of Golden Sphere Letty Lind held his advantage and covered the distance in 1:14. Count Bruno came from last position to land place honors by a length, and Lord Rockville barely outfinishcd the tiring Optical to earn the short end of the prize. Tempered by a bracing breeze that made the day ideal, a card of good entertainment was offered a large gathering that included many of the fair sex, who were guests of the management. Racing was spirited during the course of the matinee, although favorites went down to defeat steadily until the popular score of Circulet in the feature. In the added attraction of the day, which was styled the Hopeful Steeplechase, conducted without betting, five good jumpers contested the two miles journey, and it resulted in a hollow score for K. Grants Jonah when he covered the route a half dozen lengths in advance of N. D. Stewards Thundershine, with D. Browns Rapids May leading home the two others. Jonah, a Cast-off from the W. G. Campbell stable and a winner of several races on the flat during his campaign, was expertly handled by Mr. G. Grant, while Thundershine and Rapids May had as their pilots Mr. C. Every and Mr. D. Brown, Jr., respectively. Seven smart sprinters measured strides for the three-quarters of the fourth event and it saw Master Stroke, from the C. E. Myatt stable, scoring in decisive fashion under the energetic F. Mann. Anubis, from the T. Rodrock barn, after alternating in establishing the early pace with Soliloquy and Beth Hogan, stuck it out to land into second place, and Black Vim landed third money for G. M. Ridge.
