BOB BATES IS TRIUMPHANT Runs Good Race to Beat Silent Vote and Beauty Bride in Ohio. Drury Draws Out in Stretch and Defeats Bavelle Fronk Mr. Vestris Easy Victor in Maiden Race. GEAUGA LAKE, Ohio, Sept. 6. Closing with a brilliant rush from the rear on the outside through the stretch, Bob Bates took the measure of the best field at Bainbridge this afternoon, in winning the fifth race. This event attracted a smart field of three-year-olds. Silent Vote came again after rounding the far turn and overhauling Vagaries, the pacemaker, a furlong out, held the others safe as the wire was reached. Beauty Bride raced into third place along the inner rail during the stretch run. The weather was decidedly cool, the track slow, and the attendance of average proportions for an off-day. Drury secured clear sailing next to the inner rail in the stretch run in the fourth race and drew out into an easy lead in the closing stages. Bavelle Fronk headed the pacemaker, Bearcry, entering the stretch and retained a comfortable margin over the others to the end. Bearcry -finisher tiring, barely saving third from the stoutly finishing Reform. Copper came strongly on the outside through the stretch and won the opening dash going away. Amour, the pacemaker, was best of the others. From a slow beginning, Gold Mint raced into third place on the inside when Itso tired. Wise Maid was fractious en route to the post, wheeled and unseated jockey J. Rodriguez, who suffered a badly injured left leg. He will be unable to ride for some time. Axenlad left the maiden ranks when he carried the Bryson colors to victory in the second race. The Axenstein colt closed with good courage between Wandrel and Madame B. C. during the final furlong, but was hard pressed to score by a narrow margin. Thorese Girl, after closing much ground, finished second, and Madame B. C. was third. Wandrel weakened during the final test. Mr. Vestris never left the issue in serious doubt during the running of the third race, which marked his maiden victory. Rokeby and Mac Moon raced closely lapped in closest pursuit of the winner throughout and Rokeby proved the gamer in the final drive for the place honors.
