SHORELINT SURPRISE WINNER Furnishes an Upset in Headliner at Fort Erie Syndic Accounts for Second Money.. FORT ERIE, Ont., Aug. 14. Turning in his best performance of the present season in Canada, Shorelint, bearing the silks of the Toronto-owned Thorncliffe Stable, was victorious in the Fort Erie Handicap, endowed with a purse of ,000, which was the fourth and feature attraction for the second days sport. Opposed by five other home-breds, over the mile route, the seven-year-old Oilman-South Shore performer caused an upset when he won in a drive over another lightly regarded starter, in Syndic, from the G. H. Ellis stable, while Spey Crest, a consistent winner in the silks of W. H. Wright, just lasted for the short end of the purse when he took he measure of Royal Vintage, Shady Well and Battle Plane. In the feature a couple of minutes was lost before starter Cassidy sent the field away and in the run to the first turn Battle Plane set the pace. Chasing behind the Ir- J vine starter came Spey Crest when Remil-lard came out of a bumping duel in which he got best of it with Rose astride Royal Vintage. This took place on the first turn. Royal Vintage was holding fourth place while the well regarded Shady Well, under her 123 pounds, lacked speed and followed far back for the six furlongs. Spey Crest threatened at one time to take the front position. He, however, was unable to accomplish this and racing resolutely Shore-lint took the lead to continue in the van until he reached the finish with a length to spare. Syndic, coming on the outside, landed second position before the tiring Spey Crest, while Royal Vintage led the others. Another day of summer weather prevailed for the sport and racing, while good, resulted in several upsets. Much enthusiasm was displayed despite the fact that slow time was recorded due to rains that visited the course late Saturday night. 4
