overhaul Marlboro plant i Top Dressing for Maryland Half-Miler Hauled From Bowie Stationary Stall Gates. MARLBORO, Md., Aug. 14; Despite the extreme heat, which prevailed in this state all summer, Dick Pending, track superintendent of the Southern Maryland Agricultural Fair Association, still found time to make many worthwhile improvements to this course, so that it will be at its best when the second lap of Marylands fall racing season is ushered in August 29. Pending has had hauled over many cart loads of soil from the Bowie plant, located six miles from here. This soil has been used to put new life into the half-mile course. In addition, some has been used to bank the turns so that fields can go into them at top speed in safety. In the majority of the stalls on the course new floors have been laid, walking rings have been revamped and the water system improved so that when the first horsemen arrive they will find everything in tiptop condition. The roads leading from the inter-city highways between Baltimore and Washington have been improved. Walks and roads on track property are considerably better than a year ago, in fact, this plant is now one of the finest half-mile ones in America. The stationary stall gates, which have seen service at past sessions, have been overhauled and horsemen can school out of them as soon as they arrive. Pendings crew of workmen are now busy painting the grandstand, administration and other buildings on the grounds and will have the work completed within the next week. Horsemen seeking stalls can address superintendent Pending here or write Balti more Life Building, Charles and Saratoga streets, Baltimore, Md.
