VAN DUSEN SIGNS GILBERT LOUISVILLE Ky May 1 Clyde Van Dusen furnished a Derby surprise here this afternoon when he announced that negotia ¬ tions to obtain the services of Johnny Gil ¬ bert to ride Dixianas Mata Hari were suc ¬ cessful The champion jockey of 1932 now under contract to the Glen Riddle Stable will morningUntil arrive here Saturday morning Until Van JJusens announcement it had been supposed that Herman Schutte would guide the early future book favorite Schutte a Kentucky boy last fall rode Mata Hari to victory in the Breeders Futurity and Ken ¬ tucky Jockey Club Stakes StakesGilbert Gilbert came here for the 1933 Derby to ride Sarada but did not have a mount in the race the Griffith horse being a late withdrawal on account of sickness This is the second time Van Dusen has gone East to select an outstanding jockey for his Derby candidate as in 1929 he brought Linus McAtee here to guide his namesake to victory
