PROMINENT WOMEN OWNERS Two of Largest Stables at Churchill ChurchillDowns Downs Owned by Mrs P C Mara Maraand and Mrs L M Walker LOUISVILLE Ky May 5 It so happens that two of the largest stables of horses quartered at Churchill Downs are the prop ¬ erty of women both of whom have entered the thoroughbred owners ranks during the past year Mrs F C Mars has the Milky Way Farm Stable and Mrs L M Walker the Cattell Stable The latter establishment comprises twentythree head Exponent and Miss Patterson both of which were named for the Kentucky Derby are the only older members of the stable The others are two yearolds Neither Miss Patterson nor Ex ¬ ponent raced last year and the late spring in Louisville prevented trainer Eddie Kaiser from giving them the long grind necessary for a Derby eligible The twoyearolds how ¬ ever all of which are eligible for the Bash ford Manor Stakes are pretty far advanced and trainer Kaiser has hopes of having two or more under colors for the old Louisville fixture fixtureWhile While the Milky Way Farm horses were purchased in a lot from Mr Hancock the Cattell Stable was gathered at random Two and three purchases were made daily from Kentucky breeders until they were all ac ¬ quired Included in the lot are sons and daughters of Jock which finished third to Whiskery and Osmand in 1927 Hydromel American Derby winner King Nadi which was withdrawn from the 1925 Derby when it appeared the track would be fast Morvich 1922 winner and Coventry stablemate of Flying Ebony 1925 winner King Nadi was a superior mudder but believing there was no chance for rain owner J J Troxler withdrew the horse only to see a torrential rainfall shortly before post time and dur ¬ ing the running of the race This change in track EbonyMiss conditions benefited Flying Ebony Miss Patterson is eligible for the Kentucky Oaks and Exponent has been nominated for the American Derby and other stakes to be decided during the summer for threeyear olds
